In theatre, a Black Box typically describes a simple performance space, usually square, with black walls. It is the simplicity of the space that opens up a multitude of possibilities for stage configuration and, sometimes, audience interaction.
For Leipzig Ballet’s »Black Box«, the black stage space becomes a focal point for different choreographic languages and enables the presentation of artistic works from the ensemble’s own ranks. Marcelino Libao, Vinzenco Timpa and Daniel Róces Gómez are established choreographers from the company who will explore the music of Johann Sebastian Bach for »Black Box«. In collaboration with the Bachfest Leipzig, »Black Box« will become a choreographic case study of different forms of artistic expression – all in black.
