Biography
Sophie Bauer studied piano and school music at the »Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy« Academy of Music and Theatre, German and educational science at the University of Leipzig and orchestral conducting at the »Carl Maria von Weber« Academy of Music in Dresden. From 2000 to 2005, she was responsible for the Gewandhaus Children's Choir.
She has been director of the children's choir at Leipzig Opera since 2005. In 2007, she founded the Leipzig Opera Youth Choir. She was instrumental in developing a comprehensive training concept for the choir and various projects and concert formats, partly in collaboration with the Musikalische Komödie orchestra and other ensembles such as the Barış İçin Müzik (Music for Peace) youth orchestra for the »Istanbul Project« in the 2015/16 season. She has held a teaching position for children's choir conducting at the »Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy« University of Music and Theatre since 2010. In the 2017/18 season, she was the musical director for »The Secret of the Black Spider«, in 2021/22 for »King Arthur« and in 2023/24 for »Peter Pan«.
