            Children's and youth choir

Verleih uns Frieden – Ein Deutsch-Französisches Chorkonzert | © Tom Schulze

For children and teenagers ages 4 to 18

The Children's Choir of the Oper Leipzig is a musical playground for children and young people between the ages of 4 and 18. On the basis of a well-structured training concept, the children are gradually prepared for their diverse musical and acting areas. The musical communication of theory and practical testing is a concept that is unique in Leipzig.

Our offers for big and small

            Oper Mice

for children aged 4 and up

For admission to the Opernmäuse, we offer trial lessons exclusively at the beginning of each season, as we teach in a progressive manner. A decision on further participation is then made jointly.

Every Wednesday, the ‘musicat’ waits for the opera mice. He sings, dances and plays with the children. In 45 minutes, our mice experience elementary musical basics for making music together in small groups of max. 12 children. But above all, they discover their voices.

            Rehearsal times:

            Wednesday 15:15 - 16:00 | 16:15 - 17:00 | 17:15 - 18:00

            Fee: 21,- € (monthly)

            Early stage

For pre-school children and first graders (audition required)

Every Thursday, the children now discover their voices in the sound of the choir and in a much larger group of around 40 children. What does it sound like when so many voices sing together in unison? How does polyphony sound in canon? How is a tapestry of sound created? How does my voice sound when I move around the room singing with others?

            Rehearsal times:

            Thursday 15:30 - 16:15

            Fee: 25,- € (monthly)

            Intermediate level

For children 2nd - 4th grade (audition required)

Now you can meet us more and more often on the big stage, for example in »Hänsel und Gretel« or »La Bohème«. In addition to the weekly choir rehearsal, we also receive 60 minutes each of theory and dance lessons. An audition for the upper school takes place in the first half of year 4. The children then go to choir camp for the first time in the first week of the winter holidays.

A rehearsal schedule is sent out weekly.
            Rehearsal times:

Dance and theory for grades 3 and 4
            Dance Monday from 15:30
            Theory Monday from 14:30

            Classes 2 to 4
            Choir rehearsal Tuesday 15:15 - 16:30
            Voice training Tuesday 15:00 - 16:00

            Fee: 29,-€ (monthly)

            High level children's choir

For children from 4th grade (audition required)

We can be found in all productions with a children's choir on the opera stage and in the Musikalische Komödie. We can also be seen in our own productions, such as the musical »Peter Pan«. We rehearse at least twice a week and also receive voice training, dance and scenic lessons. We also go to a choir camp twice a season.

A rehearsal schedule is sent out weekly.

            Rehearsal times:

Choir rehearsal Tuesday and Thursday 16:45 - 18:45
Voice training Tuesday and Thursday 30 min. each for one child/group

            No contributions

            Young male voices

With the change of voice, the boys leave the children's choir. They are supervised by experienced singing teachers. They then have the opportunity to continue singing in the youth choir. Together with the older singers from the upper school, they form an ensemble that performs as a concert choir, for example in the ballet production »Paradise Lost«, but can also be seen in theatrical productions, such as the musical theatre production »King Arthur« last season and the musical »Peter Pan« in the 2023/24 season.

            Rehearsal times:

            together with the upper school

            no contributions

Note: rehearsals are free for all choir levels on all school-free days and holidays in Saxony.
