Biography
Sofia Nappi is a choreographer and artistic director of KOMOCO, a contemporary dance company based in Italy and active internationally, which she co-founded alongside her first muses, Adriano Popolo Rubbio and Paolo Piancastelli.
Sofia graduated from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre in New York, with significant influences from the Hofesh Shechter Dance Company and the Gaga movement language developed by Ohad Naharin.
Her early creations with KOMOCO earned awards such as the Partner Introdans Award (Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition, 2021) and 1st Prize, Critics Award, and Production Award at the 35th International Choreography Competition Hannover (2021).
Currently, KOMOCO’s works are performed internationally at festivals and institutions like La Biennale di Venezia, RomaEuropa Festival, Colors International Dance Festival, and Belgrade Dance Festival. As an independent choreographer, Sofia has created for prominent companies, including the National Theatre Mannheim, Staatsoper Hannover, Scottish Dance Theatre, Introdans, and Nederlands Dans Theater 2.
Alongside her creative work, Sofia is dedicated to research and training, teaching at institutions such as NYU Tisch, Micadanses Paris, Henny Jurriëns Amsterdam, and b12 Berlin. Since 2022, she has also led the bi-annual »Komoco Intensive« workshop in Florence.
