Biography
Born in Freiberg in central Saxony, tenor Sandro Hähnel took lessons in guitar, accordion, piano, tenor horn and cello. He has been studying at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen since 2018. In university productions, he played Basilio in »Le Nozze di Figaro« (2022), Pluto in »Orpheus in the Underworld« (2023) and Male Chorus in Britten's »The Rape of Lucretia« (2024). In 2019, he sang the role of »Dreamer« at the Biennale di Venezia in the award-winning opera performance »Sun and Sea«, with which he has since performed internationally (including La Grande Halle de la Villette/Paris, Esplanade/Singapore, Teatro Colón/Buenos Aires). Hähnel is also involved in interdisciplinary and cross-genre projects, e.g. as a singer and performer in Ben J. Riepe's dance performance »Ever/Rêve« (Tanzhaus Düsseldorf/2022).
He will make his debut at the Musikalische Komödie in 2025 as Mercury in Offenbach's »Orpheus in the Underworld«.
