Lothar Hensel

Biography

Like the bandoneon, Lothar Hensel was born on the Lower Rhine. He studied bandoneon in Buenos Aires and Paris with famous tango musicians. Today he is one of the most sought-after bandoneon soloists in the world. He has played with many renowned orchestras, including several times with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He has already played Astor Piazzolla's famous »Concierto para bandoneón« more times than the composer himself. The specialised press is always fascinated by the virtuosity and expressiveness of his playing. Lothar Hensel also arranges and composes for a wide variety of formations, from works for his own ensembles to film scores and compositions for large orchestras as well as bandoneon concertos. They combine traditional tango elements with those of modern music.
