Biography
Born in South Tyrol, he graduated with honors from the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna »MUK«. Since then, he has played numerous leading roles at various German-speaking theaters. These include Freddy in »My Fair Lady« at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt, Grimm in »Grimm!« at the Graz Opera, Rodney Hatch in »One Touch of Venus«, Hendrik Egerman in »Das Lächeln einer Sommernacht« at the Staatstheater Gärtnerplatz in Munich, Perchik in »Anatevka« at the Stadttheater Bozen, Tony in »West Side Story« and Claude in »Hair« at the Bad Hersfeld Festival. As a permanent member of the ensemble at the Landestheater Linz, he played Ben in »Lazarus«, Adam Hochberg in »An American in Paris«, Harry Houdini in »Ragtime« and Edmund de Waal in the award-winning world premiere »Der Hase mit den Bernsteinaugen«. Further engagements took him to the Graz Opera as Sky Masterson in »Guys and Dolls« and to the Saarbrücken State Theater as Leopold in »Weißen Rössl«. In the same summer, he also played Albert Kestner in the world premiere of »Goethe!« at the Bad Hersfeld Festival. Christof Messner won 1st place in the first Austrian competition for musical entertainment theater »MUT« in 2009. In 2015, he was honored by the German Musical Academy as best actor in a leading role for »Grimm!«. He is a prizewinner at the »Lotte Lenya Competition« 2018 in New York and in 2021 he was nominated for »Goethe!” in the category »Best Actor in a Leading Role” at the German Musical Theater Award. In 2023, he appeared as Dr. Madden in »Next to Normal« at Theater Bern and as Harry in »Mamma Mia!« at the Seefestspiele Mörbisch. He made his debut at the Dortmund Opera as filmmaker and main character Mark Cohen in the musical »Rent«. This summer he played the antagonist Anastasius in »Die Päpstin« in Gil Mehmert’s new production at the Sommermusical Fulda.
Christof Messner makes his debut at the Musikalische Komödie as Rolf in Thomas Hermann’s world premiere »Hello! Again?«.
